Grassalkovich Mansion, Hatvan
The Castle in Hatvan was built by Antal Grassalkovich between 1754 and 1757, and expanded in 1763. The castle was built on the site of a medieval castle, presumably using some surviving building elements, and its main facade faces the main square.
This gives the building a special harmony, as some parts of it evoke the past, while other parts reflect the elegance of the Baroque.
Throughout its history, the castle has had several different functions, which were determined by the continuous changes of the building and the circumstances. It was once a count's residence, a social institution, an educational institution, a hospital, and is currently home to the Széchenyi Zsigmond Hunting Museum.
Arriving in the east ground floor wing of the castle, we can reach the exhibition through the corridor on the left side of the decorative staircase. The entrance opens from the corridor presenting the life and work of our chief gardeners of the castle. The room here contains archive photos, interiors, 19-20. A city model depicting the 19th century, as well as commemorative photos of the Hatvany family, can be seen.
